“Green products shouldn’t be made from endangered materials. One of the reasons James Hardie® products are ‘green’ is because they incorporate natural ingredients that are low in toxicity.”

-Peter Pfeifer, FAIA

Sustainable Building Products

James Hardie® fibre cement siding products — used in some of the nation’s premier green homes and LEED–certified for sustainability — are eco–conscious on many levels, from the raw materials used and the manufacturing process, to transportation and installation of the finished product.

  • Ten strategically located manufacturing plants reduce the environmental impact caused by excessive transportation of materials.

  • Most of the renewable raw materials used to make James Hardie siding products are extracted and processed near one of the manufacturing plant.

  • The water used in the manufacturing process is recycled up to four times.

  • Recycling the process materials minimizes waste.

  • James Hardie siding products with ColorPlus® technology are delivered pre–painted to the building site. This eliminates outdoor painting, which can release harmful VOCs (volatile organics compounds) into the air.

  • James Hardie siding products with ColorPlus technology have a 15–year finish warranty which helps lessen further environmental contaminates caused by frequent painting.
